At the Platte River Fort our mission is to create a once in a lifetime experience for our guests and our community. To do this, we have established a culture that supports our team members so they can provide exceptional service.

Dori DeJong – Owner & CEO

Dori grew up on a dairy farm just to the south of the Platte River Fort. She graduated from Platte Valley High School and then continued on to the University of Northern Colorado where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1987. In 1996, she earned a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Denver School of Social Work and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Denver College of Law. In 2013, Dori completed a Master of Business Administration at the University of Denver Daniels School of Business. After two decades of working with battered women as a social worker, legal advocate and attorney, Dori retired from the practice of law to manage the Platte River Fort full-time.

Dori and her partner, Elaine, have an eleven year old son that keeps them busy. Dori enjoys watching Caden play basketball, spending time with family and traveling.

Erin Johnson – Director of Business Operations

Erin grew up in Northern Illinois and moved out to Colorado in 2002. She graduated from Byron High School and continued on at the University of Northern Colorado, graduating in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and a minor in Media Studies. Erin has been at the Platte River Fort since 2015 and specializes in sales, marketing, social media and venue coordination.

Erin and her husband Rich have two daughters, Landi and Tinley as well as their Boston Terrier, Render. In her free time, Erin enjoys playing volleyball, spending time with her family and vacationing.

Steve Walters – Director of Property

Steve grew up in Brighton, Colorado and attended Brighton High School. He continued on at Northeastern Junior College, graduating with an Associates degree in Production Agriculture. Steve has been at the Platte River Fort since July 2016 and specializes grounds maintenance, upkeep and wears many hats.

Steve and his wife Amy have four children, Austin, Seth, Shea and Allison. In his free time, Steve enjoys hunting, fishing, shooting and spending time with his family.

Amy Walters – Director of Housekeeping

Amy is a Colorado native and graduated from Yuma High School. She continued on to floral school and became a Certified Florist. Amy directs and manages all of our housekeeping as well as assists with events of all kinds. Amy has worked at the Platte River Fort since 2013.

Amy and her husband Steve have four children, Austin, Seth, Shea and Allison. In her free time, Amy enjoys shooting with her family, camping and watching her children’s sporting events.

Rebecca Barnes – Marketing & Event Assistant

Rebecca is a native of Colorado and grew up in Elizabeth. She graduated from Elizabeth High School. Rebecca moved to Northern Colorado in 2011 and continued onto Colorado State University and majored in hospitality management with a minor in business administration. Rebecca also received certifications in wedding planning and event design and styling. Rebecca’s favorite part of being in the Northern Colorado community is the camaraderie.

In her free time, Rebecca enjoys hiking, painting, rock climbing, playing various musical instruments, kick boxing as well as photography. Rebecca has two dogs, Sid and Charlee and four baby chickens.

Jan Clark – Event Assistant

Jan grew up in Colorado Springs and graduated from Wasson High School. Jan continued on to the University of Northern Colorado and double majored in teaching and biology. Upon graduation Jan worked at Loveland High School as a biology teacher and coached volleyball and basketball for five years. In 1989, Jan moved to Kelso, Washington where she earned a Master’s of Education degree from the University of Portland. She taught biology and was an athletic and academic coach for 23 years. She then moved to Arvada and taught science for three years at Adams City Middle School.

In her free time, Jan enjoys hiking, bird watching and playing with her dog, Albert.

Michele Kelley – Event Assistant

Michele grew up in Richmond, Michigan and graduated from Richmond High School. Michele continued her education at the Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts and received her license to broadcast. She continued on at Oakland University of Michigan and received her degree in communication. Michele moved to Colorado in 1991 and has made Colorado her home.

In her free time, Michele enjoys crafting, training her dogs and attending her son’s football games. She also enjoys donating her time to the town of Kersey’s many sporting events. Michele has three son’s, Keith, Lee and Max.

Domenic Valentine – Event Assistant

Domenic grew up in the highest city in the contiguous U.S. at 10,152 feet – Leadville, Colorado. He graduated with an Associate of Arts degree from Colorado Mountain College in 2014 and a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in journalism and advertising media from the University of Northern Colorado.

Domenic’s family owns and operates a cattle ranch in southern Colorado where he and his brother learned to drive and brand cattle. In his free time, Domenic loves being outdoors and enjoys fishing, hunting, shooting and hiking. He is also passionate about weight lifting and healthy living.
